Women's Centres Connect
The collective voice of Women’s Centres in Nova Scotia

January 28, 2025

Hello friends!

Welcome to 2026

As we step into a new year, we want to take a moment to welcome 2026 with gratitude, reflection, and renewed commitment. Each year brings new challenges, but it also brings powerful reminders of what is possible when women, gender-diverse individuals, families, and communities are supported, believed in, and connected.

This month, we are especially proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone. Pictou County Women’s Resource Centre is marking 50 years of service, five decades of advocacy, compassion, and unwavering support. On behalf of all women, gender-diverse individuals, and families whose lives have been touched over the years, we extend our deepest thanks. Their legacy is one of resilience, leadership, and community-driven change, and their impact continues to be felt every day.

As we move through 2026, Connect will once again be sharing client case studies throughout the year. These stories will highlight not only the very real and complex needs faced by those who access women’s centres, but also the incredible resilience, strength, and courage they bring. Just as importantly, these stories will shine a light on the profound impact of women’s centre staff whose dedication, empathy, and advocacy make meaningful change possible, one conversation at a time.

Thank you to everyone who continues to walk alongside us in this work. Together, we are building safer, stronger, and more connected communities, now and for the years ahead.

For years, she has been the sole caregiver for her adult son, who lives with a severe mental health disorder. Keep reading →
